Planning Tips & Ideas

Planning a wedding is widely known as a stressful, albeit exciting time, for a couple. There are a lot of details, vendors and plans to nail down before the big day. Here are some of our wedding tips and ideas for tying the knot here in San Marcos to make it a little easier on you.

Get creative with your venue
Looking for a unique, non-traditional wedding venue? We’ve seen some amazing weddings take place in unexpected or unique places in San Marcos. Consider an intimate Kissing Alley wedding with reception held in a Downtown watering hole, sunset nuptials with Spring Lake as the backdrop and Glass-Bottom Boat rides at Meadows Center, or maybe a big party in the heart of San Marcos on the Hays County Courthouse lawn – your San Marcos wedding can be as unique as the couple themselves.

Pick an unconventional date
Prolong the festivities, and also save on your budget, by having your big day on a day other than a Saturday. There’s plenty to do in San Marcos for your guests to explore and experience in the days leading up to, or after the “I do.” There’s also no bad time to have a wedding in San Marcos. San Marcos has, on average, 232 days of sunshine per year. Fall and spring have more moderate temperatures for outdoor weddings with the temperature ranging from 70-85 degrees. Of course, San Marcos winters are quite mild.

Think sustainably
Help us keep San Marcos beautiful by using low-impact, biodegradable materials and disposing of trash properly once the party is over. San Marcos is an ecologically sensitive area, and many endangered and threatened species call it home. Don’t let leftover florals go to waste, but instead donate them to local retirement homes or gift them to your venue’s staff, your family or guests so they can enjoy them for days after the wedding. Skip the plastic bubbles or tchotchkes and either give your guests an edible favor or donate to a charity close to your heart in your guests’ name.

Riverside romance
The San Marcos River is a very romantic place to exchange vows. The crystal-clear water and lush greenery make a stunning backdrop. However, we advise scheduling your riverside nuptials for earlier in the day before river recreation picks up and you spot tubes and kayaks in the background of your photos.
